T&T, Meijer Enter New Markets
Canada-based Asian grocer T&T Supermarkets, Meijer, and Lidl recently revealed plans to expand their U.S. footprints.
T&T said Wednesday that they would open a second U.S. store in Washington state, the same state as its recently unveiled flagship location. The U.S. flagship is in Bellevue and is slated to open this summer, while the second store comes to Lynnwood and is expected to open next summer.
"We never stopped looking at locations in Washington after the announcement of our flagship store in Bellevue," said Tina Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarkets, in a statement. "There's excellent growth potential here, and although we originally planned on only committing to a second location after Bellevue opens, we just couldn't resist this opportunity. It's a great location in a former grocery box – at 30,000 square feet, it's a fitting size for Lynnwood."
Meijer said Tuesday it will open its new 90,000-square-foot smaller grocery format store on July 11 in Noblesville, Indiana, the first of its format to come to the state.
"Meijer has been providing an exceptional shopping experience to customers across Indiana for 30 years, and the Meijer Grocery in Noblesville will further solidify our commitment to the Hoosier State," said Travis Bernath, Noblesville Meijer Grocery Store Director. "We prioritize our customers' time and ultimately developed this new streamlined grocery store format with convenience at the forefront. We're eager to deliver that experience and great value to area customers later this summer."
The smaller format simplifies the customer shopping experience while incorporating essential categories, including produce and grocery; fresh meat; bakery; full-service deli; pharmacy; health and beauty; baby, pets and consumables; and cards, party and floral, said Meijer.
On Wednesday, Lidl revealed that its latest store will open on June 12 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
“At Lidl, we are committed to bringing fresh, high-quality food to communities at affordable prices. We are excited to open our doors in Harrisburg and look forward to serving customers in the area,” said Or Raitses, Lidl’s senior director of real estate for the north region, in a statement.
As part of its commitment to support the community, Lidl will donate to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, which aids families in Central Pennsylvania. Lidl will give $1 to the organization for each shopper who signs up for the grocer’s app and sets Harrisburg as their store throughout opening weekend, said Lidl.
