Swigr Enables Visual Storytelling on Labels

Specialty Food Association

Swigr, an augmented reality application will soon allow consumers to scan distilled spirits, like vodka, whisky, and gin, and discover the story behind the products directly on their phone screen. Already used in the beer industry, with over 50 breweries adopting the technology, including Budweiser, Abita, and Harpoon, Immertia, the company behind the application, says AR is connecting with the Millennial market.

"It's a compelling drawcard for millennials–the under forties, who are socially connected, and always on their phones,” said Dave Chaffey, Immertia partner, in a statement. “They love the experience–it's a new form of storytelling that's authentic and engaging."

Swigr’s platform will virtually animate the product packaging, playing multimedia content and offering interactive videos and experiences after scanning the product label.

The application does not require the need for QR codes and is able to fully integrate with already existing products, which helps to eliminate the service’s barriers to entry, says the company.
