Lake Champlain Chocolates & Maker’s Mark Bourbon Truffles

Lake Champlain Chocolates & Maker’s Mark Bourbon Truffles

A Sweet Collaboration between two Certified B Corporations®.

Burlington, Vt. (July 2024) –  Family-owned company Lake Champlain Chocolates (LCC), known for their award-winning chocolate confections and commitment to Fair Trade ingredients, is excited to announce a line of Bourbon Truffles in partnership with Kentucky–based bourbon company, Maker’s Mark.

Born from a dare to do better, Jim Lampman founded Lake Champlain Chocolates, beginning the journey of making hand-rolled, creamy truffles crafted with local Vermont ingredients. Fast forward over 40 years later, Lake Champlain Chocolates' truffle-making is still going strong.

“When Maker’s Mark asked us to create an ethically and sustainably-sourced gourmet bourbon truffle fitting of their high standards, naturally we were up for the challenge,” says Allyson Myers, LCC Director of Marketing and Customer Experience. “On a visit to the iconic Maker’s Mark distillery and campus, our team got to meet eighth-generation distiller, Rob Samuels, watch their bourbon bottles get hand-dipped in signature red wax, and learn the care and passion that goes into making each innovative craft cocktail.  We quickly discovered that our companies are very much aligned- from our mission and values to how we craft our products.”

Both family-owned companies, Maker’s Mark and LCC are rooted in a vision to do better and craft products with pride and integrity.  The next generation of each company continues this vision today as certified B Corporations®, with a shared passion to change the world and to create an unforgettable experience that delights the senses, stokes curiosity, and entices discovery.

LCC President and second-generation owner, Eric Lampman explains: “Being a certified B Corporation® means caring about people, planet, and profits, equally. It takes time, craftsmanship, and an unsurpassed attention to detail. It may not always be efficient; however, the results are truly extraordinary.”

The Bourbon Truffles are made with traditional, handmade European style fresh ganache, a blended center of milk and dark chocolate, local cream, Cabot Butter (another certified B Corporations®), and enrobed in fair trade Milk or Dark Chocolate.  The Maker’s Mark Milk Chocolate Bourbon Truffles are infused with Maker’s Mark, handmade Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey and the Maker’s Mark No.46 Dark Chocolate Bourbon Truffles are made with Maker’s Mark No. 46, aged longer than Maker’s Mark original bourbon with special seared French Oak staves.

The Bourbon Truffles are made in small batches throughout the year, in time for fourth quarter holidays, Valentine’s Day, the Kentucky Derby, and Father’s Day. Each plastic-free gift box is wrapped in a design that gives a nod to the handprinted whiskey bottle labels that Margie Samuel first created for her husband’s handmade bourbon. An MSRP of $30, the creamy and decadent truffles can be purchased at Maker’s Mark Shop online, at Starr Hill Farm in Loretto, KY, LCC’s four Vermont retail stores in Burlington, Waterbury Center, and Stowe, and at LakeChamplainChocolates.com.
