Full-time hiring and training is underway for Wegmans Food Markets’ second store in New York City.
Located at 770 Broadway in Astor Place, the new store is set to open in the second half of 2023. Wegmans plans to employ more than 500 people at this store, including more than 200 full-time positions. The majority of employees will be hired locally.
Available full-time positions include everything from entry-level management to customer service, overnight grocery, and culinary roles. Hiring for part-time positions will begin in early 2023.
“When Wegmans first came to Brooklyn, I had never heard of it, but decided to apply and learn more,” said Gregory, a Brooklyn Wegmans employee. “I was originally hired full-time in the Burger Bar. At first, I was nervous because everything was so new to me, but the culinary team taught me everything I needed to know to do my job successfully. Over the past 3 years with Wegmans, I’ve been promoted twice and am now a Lead Cook. Wegmans is an amazing place to work; everyone supports and encourages one another to step outside of their comfort zone to try something new and advance their career.”
Wegmans will occupy the space on both the street and lower level of the historic building on Broadway, built in 1907 by architect Daniel Burnham. When customers walk through the doors, they will see the Wegmans Food Hall, including everything from fresh sushi and authentic Italian pizza to made-to-order salads and sandwiches. There will also be hot and cold self-serve stations featuring entrees and sides, international cuisine, homestyle and vegetarian options – all available on-the-go.
On the lower level, customers will find the more traditional departments like produce, meat, and seafood, along with grocery, dairy, and frozen food aisles.
Wegmans has a long-standing reputation as an exceptional employer. For 25 consecutive years, it has ranked high on Fortune magazine’s list of “The 100 Best Companies to Work For,” placing third in 2022.
