Uber Eats said that it will add time- and money-saving features to help customers purchase grocery and household essentials during this time of economic uncertainty. The updates will begin rolling out this year or by 2024.
The company shared that it is accepting SNAP EBT payments for purchases for grocery delivery on its app. Additionally, the company will begin to accept Healthcare Benefits Payments for Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans so that users can shop for groceries with FSA Cards, Flex Cards, and waiver payments.
“We’ve heard from many shoppers that this is an essential part of creating greater food accessibility, especially for people from certain communities that might not have access to reliable transportation, or people that might have disabilities,” said Pierre-Dimitry Gore-Coty, SVP of delivery at Uber, during an education session at last week's Groceryshop in Las Vegas.
The app will also add the Uber Eats Sales Aisle, a page for sales items to give users access to promos and deals across the marketplace.
Similar to Instacart’s generative AI-powered chatbot released earlier this year, Uber Eats will deploy an AI assistant to facilitate the shopping experience. Users can ask the feature for help with things like recipe and cuisine suggestions, grocery and restaurant deals, and meal planning.
“These are some of the things we are doing to address this broader [economic] climate that is naturally putting pressure on consumer spending and budgets,” said Gore Coty.
