Specialty Food Association president Bill Lynch hosted the third annual SFA Way Awards, Thursday. Association staff nominate their colleagues for these awards which recognize exceptional work in the categories of Servant Leader, Inclusive, Innovator, Emerging Star, Mountain Mover, and the Stephen Leeman Award, named for SFA’s first president.
Following is a list of winners and information from their nominations:
Servant Leader: Anthony Bavaro, director of financial planning and analysis, finance.
Bavaro, who has been with SFA for over 15 years, embodies a servant leader in that he truly wants to understand the details of SFA’s programs and the value proposition for each so he can serve as a better steward of SFA’s financials and make appropriate projections and recommendations. He puts his colleagues before himself during the budgeting process and works hard to keep everyone updated with accurate information. He will go the extra mile to help show participants when working at the Fancy Food Shows. Additionally, he shows care for others in multiple ways, such as development/mentorship and helping staff stay on track with tasks.
Inclusive: Mimo Boulefrakh, manager of global accounts, relations department
Boulefrakh is recognized for his inclusive attitude and grace in working with members worldwide. He has the ability to navigate challenges posed by diverse cultures and business ethics, contributing to the international growth of the Fancy Food Shows. He is commended for his understanding and effective assistance in connecting with individuals from various cultural backgrounds and of course his welcoming nature within the Association.
Innovator: Yogini Lad, accountant, finance
Lad has been a key member of the finance team for almost 10 years. As SFA has grown and integrated new technology, she has had to learn and use different innovative methods in reconciling large amounts of data. Her contribution to the finance department is described as critical to its success. She has proven to be invaluable by assisting in various areas of the department, effectively integrating technology, accounting, and accounts payable aspects of the job.
Emerging Star, recognizing a new hire – Miranda Kaufman, coordinator, accounts receivables, finance
After graduating from Rutgers, Kaufman seamlessly transitioned from her internship to a full-time position this year and is making a significant impact at SFA. She consistently responds promptly and positively and always has a can-do attitude. She willingly takes on additional responsibilities, excels under pressure, and has become a valuable resource for the staff.
The Mountain Mover – Tressa Kennedy, director of operations
Kennedy is a multifaceted professional and leader across all departments, consistently going beyond her individual role. She impresses with her proactive work ethic, reliability, and her can-do attitude. She is always working hard, is always on top of her responsibilities (and beyond), and is always an absolute pleasure to work with. She never ceases to impress with her willingness to jump in and help solve a problem or provide historical information or guidance.
Stephen Leeman Award - This award acknowledges the staff member that received the most votes across all award categories: Tressa Kennedy
