Amazon One, the contactless payment service that scans a user's palmprint to pay for items, is continuing its rollout to Whole Foods stores in Los Angeles and New York City, according to Supermarket News. The Manhattan West Whole Foods was first enabled with this feature last week, and the Playa Vista Whole Foods is set to launch Amazon One within the coming weeks.
First premiered at a Whole Foods Market in Seattle in 2021, the service has since expanded to various locations in Washington, Texas, and California.
Amazon One operates by scanning a person’s unique palm signature which can be used to pay at a store, present a loyalty card, or allow secure entry at various locations. Customers must sign up at a special kiosk or device at participating locations, and either one or both palms can be used.
This new feature builds on Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology system. Currently, Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh offer the option to pay for real-time-shopped grocery items via a smartphone application. Full Story
