Wegmans will close its multi-level location in Natick, Massachusetts. The exact date has yet to be determined but will occur this summer.
The location's 365 employees are all being offered positions at other Wegmans in the area.
“Making these decisions is never easy. However, we do it for the long-term benefit of our people, our customers, and our communities,” said Brien MacKendrick, human resources director of Wegmans’ New England division, in a statement. “Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location, we are unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work.”
Wegmans identified Natick as an ideal location for a store in 2009 but couldn’t find a site that met its criteria until the Natick Mall location became available. The store opened in 2018 and was the company’s first multi-level store within a major mall. At 134,000 square feet, it is one of the company’s largest locations.
“We love our Natick community and customers, and we’re eager to pursue new store locations in the area for the future,” said MacKendrick. “In the meantime, we hope to continue to serve our Natick customers through our e-commerce offerings and our other area stores.”
Wegmans does not have plans to close any other stores, according to the company.
