Walmart is teaming up with Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider by Google's parent company, wrote Prathibha Rajashekhar, SVP of innovation and automation at Walmart U.S., in a blog post.
The service will be offered from two Dallas metro area stores in the coming months, increasing the drone program’s footprint by 60,000 homes. There are currently 11 drone hubs already in operation in the area.
“Working with Wing directly aligns with our passion for finding innovative and eco-friendly last-mile delivery solutions to get customers the items they want, when they want them,” wrote Rajashekhar. “With drones that can fly beyond visual line of sight, we’re able to unlock on-demand delivery for customers living within an approximate 6-mile range of the stores that offer the service.”
Customers will be able to order items like frozen treats, household essentials, fragile items like eggs, and last-minute meal options like mac and cheese. Full Story
