Walmart Takes Pollinator-Focused Approach to Pest Management

In another step towards creating a pollinator-friendly environment, Walmart has introduced commitments to work with accredited wildlife vendors to relocate bees found on Walmart premises nationwide. Whenever possible, these bees will be placed with local beekeepers.

Last April, Walmart initiated guidelines to reduce nature loss, promote an integrated pest management system, expand habitats of pollinators, and label pollinator-friendly plants.

“Since April 2021, Walmart has realigned its pest management processes to work with local bee relocation experts across the country, humanely removing and relocating bees from our stores and fulfillment centers, and placing them back into nature,” said Waite Colbaugh, Walmart pest management, in a statement.

Bees are the focus of Walmart’s efforts because of their crucial role in the domestic supply chain, and their pivotal role in many U.S. regions’ local economies, according to the retailer. Full Story
