Walmart has released its 2021 report regarding culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion, giving insight into the company’s philosophy and approach toward creating a positive space for everyone as well as data and statistics to back up the retailer's claims.
“At Walmart, we aim to foster inclusion through the intentional action of understanding, supporting and championing individuals in all of their uniqueness, resulting in a culture where all associates feel welcome, comfortable, safe and empowered to reach their full potential every day,” wrote Walmart in a statement.
The data shows that diverse and female leaders at Walmart are growing: 33.8 percent of U.S. officers are women in 2022 compared to 31.8 percent in 2020. People of color now represent 26.6 percent of U.S. officers, up from 24.88 percent in 2020.
Almost half of the company’s U.S. associates are people of color: 49.33 percent of domestic hourly associates identified as such in 2022, up 3.38 percent; moreover, 38.51 percent of domestic management associates in 2022 were people of color, up from 35.92 percent in 2020. Intersectionality (associates who identify as two or more races) of U.S. associates grew to 3.04 percent this year, up from 2.63 percent in 2020.
Resource groups like Asian Pacific Associate Network, Pride, Latinx Network, and more, were listed under the company’s programs to create a belonging culture, providing sponsors and resources to provide strategic direction, mentorship, sponsorship, or general counsel to the members of each group.
Walmart has scheduled a June 22 Racial Equity Milestone Meeting to share the company’s progress on advancing equity for all.
