Walmart Offers Discounted Subscription

Walmart revealed in a blog post today that it will offer half-priced memberships for customers on government assistance.

The Walmart+ Assist program is available to new and existing qualifying members and provides a monthly or annual subscription at 50 percent off: $6.47 a month or $49 a year. The subscription can be used for grocery shipments or deliveries, gas discounts, and more.

“Walmart+ Assist was designed to do exactly what’s in the name: assist those who need it most," wrote Venessa Yates, SVP and general manager at Walmart+. "We’re making it easier and more accessible for government-assisted customers to become members and take advantage of the full suite of savings Walmart+ has to offer them.”

Yates also shared that this decision was part of a larger mission to help lower-income families, adding that, in 2019, Walmart was one of the first retailers to begin taking part in the USDA’s SNAP Online Purchase pilot and now offers the service in every state in the country.
