Three years after purchasing the online alcohol delivery platform for $1.1 billion, Uber is shutting Drizly down, reports Associated Press. The alcohol delivery arm will officially shut down at the end of March.
In a statement, Uber’s SVP of delivery Pierre Dimitri Gore-Coty said that the company decided to close Drizly’s business and “focus on our core Uber Eats strategy of helping consumers get almost anything—from food to groceries to alcohol—all on a single app.”
After the acquisition in 2021, Drizly continued to operate as a standalone app with a marketplace that integrated into the Uber Eats platform. The service delivers beer, wine, and spirits in states where it is legal and partners with retailers across North America.
Uber plans to grow its own “BevAlc” offerings by learning from Drizly’s time in the industry, according to the report. Full Story
