Time has named the best inventions of 2022, including those in the food and drink space. Among those that made it to the list that was compiled by the magazine's editors and correspondents are:
• Beyond Meat’s Beyond Steak
• Cometeer’s Coffee Capsule
• Meati’s Plant-Based Crispy Cutlet and Chicken Cutlet
• Atomo Coffee’s Molecular Cold Brew
• MyForest Food’s Plant-Based MyBacon
• Atarraya’s Sustainable Shrimpbox
Three of the companies on the list feature innovations in the plant-based space, opting for ingredients like mushrooms and fungi such as mycelium. Meati uses 95 percent mushroom root to create its protein-dense chicken cutlets.
"We're honored to be included in TIME's carefully curated annual list, joining past awardees that have innovated to create worldwide impact," said Meati Foods CEO and co-founder, Tyler Huggins, in a statement. "We set out to change the way people eat by democratizing access to delicious, exceptional nourishment, and this honor validates Meati's mission as we pave the way for healthier people and a healthier planet."
Other products that make the list include an air purifier that captures ambient water and creates a drinkable end-product, edible tape to keep burritos closed, and a high-tech oven that can cook a chicken in 7 minutes.
