Taco Bell recently unveiled its Vegan Crunchwrap, a plant-based alternative to a popular, meat-based menu item. The chain is testing the product in locations in New York City, Los Angeles, and Orlando.
This is the first time the brand has sold a fully vegan entrée. The Vegan Crunchwrap is made with plant-based beef created by the company, topped with a vegan blanco sauce comparable to sour cream and a vegan nacho sauce. The dish is topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and a tostada shell and wrapped in a flour tortilla.
"Such a large part of our fandom is vegan or vegetarian, and we're as committed to them as they are to us and our menu," said Liz Matthews, global chief food innovation officer at Taco Bell, in a statement. "That's why we took so long, months and years, to release something this special; we wanted and needed to get it exactly right, to get it mouth-watering. Because let's admit it, we've all eaten plenty of products on today's market that don't taste great and certainly aren't craveable."
The Vegan Crunchwrap will be priced the same as its meat-based counterpart.
