As part of a cultivated meat consumer acceptance test, SuperMeat served participants crispy chicken sandwiches with the option to order either the classic or one made with cultivated meat.
SuperMeat, a foodtech company focused on creating sustainable lab-grown cultivated chicken meat, found that 72 percent of participants chose cultivated meat. This result demonstrates consumers’ willingness to consume synthetic meat, according to the company.
In addition to the benefit of protection of animal welfare, cultivated chicken may provide a more sustainable method of meat consumption, with fewer risks for food-borne diseases, according to SuperMeat.
"Seeing so many consumers choose, and enjoy, cultivated meat validates the work SuperMeat has been doing to set the stage for products to enter the market in the near future," says Ido Savir, CEO of SuperMeat.
In a recent SuperMeat-held blind tasting, professional chefs could not distinguish between the traditional and cultivated chicken, inspiring the company to bring this test to the public.
