Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open locations on October 28 in Palmdale, California and Tucson, Arizona.
The Palmdale store will feature a selection of locally produced products including fresh fruits and vegetables from Muranaka Farms, Eco Farms, and more. Local products will feature a blue tag.
“The City Council and staff have worked hard to reach this day and celebrate, not just a great business going into this location, but a business with a strong sense of community at its heart,” said Palmdale mayor Steve Hofbauer in a statement.
Through the Sprouts’ Food Rescue program, the Palmdale location will donate consumable groceries no longer fit for sale to Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Similarly, the Tucson store will donate items to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona through the same program.
The Tucson Sprouts will also stock locally produced items like fresh fruits and vegetables from Martori Farms, Pacific Organic, and Pinto Creek Ranches.
To commemorate the opening in Arizona, the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation will award $100,000 to the Community and School Garden Program at the University of Arizona, an initiative that supports over 60 school gardens throughout the city.
