Beginning Earth Day on April 22 and running through April 25, Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation will hold a gathering focused on school gardens from a national perspective, gathering over 400 educators and leaders from across the U.S. Together, the attendees represent more than 6,000 school campuses and provide education to 2.5 million students each year. The summit will be held in Denver, Colorado.
“Sprouts is committed to improving children’s nutrition education, and we believe our investment in school garden education is one of the best tools available to advance this mission,” said Lyndsey Waugh, executive director of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, in a statement. “Hosting the Growing School Gardens Summit is an opportunity to level-up our impact by focusing on how we can empower school garden educators, understanding that through this support we will have an even greater and lasting impact on students.”
The summit will feature over 115 workshop sessions, “lightning talks” led by school garden professionals, opportunities to tour Denver’s school gardens, an emerging leaders program supporting young professionals, and networking opportunities to empower educators. In attendance will be Jose Gonzales, founder of Latino Outdoors, and DJ Cavem, a Grammy-nominated eco-hiphop artist and culinary climate action ambassador.
With support from The Republic of Tea, 25 percent of all summit attendees will receive scholarship assistance to remove the financial barrier of attending the gathering.
