Southeastern Grocers Grows Diversity Initiative

Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie, is working with the SEG Gives Foundation to award the 2022 Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant. The program promotes an equitable society by providing funds to nonprofit organizations that address racial disparities in healthcare, food insecurity, and education.

All organizations that support underserved populations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi are encouraged to apply through September 30, and grant recipients will receive between $5,000 and $25,000.

“At Southeastern Grocers, we are committed to a culture of belonging where differences are embraced and celebrated,” said Raymond Rhee, chief people officer of Southeastern Grocers, in a statement. “In advocating for inclusivity, we strive to provide more equal opportunities for underrepresented voices to be heard and amplified. Through a dedication to positive change, we proudly support impactful organizations that empower social justice by combating inequities in the communities we serve.”

Using a service called ReposiTrak MarketPlace, a program to help vendors connect with retailers, the grocer is also expanding its supplier program to source products with diverse and minority ownership.

“Working with ReposiTrak to tailor internal practices allows us to find and contract with more diverse suppliers,” said SEG chief merchandising officer Dewayne Rabon, in a statement. “This new partnership with ReposiTrak helps offer customers throughout the Southeast the most relevant products that best suit their tastes and preferences.”

Both actions from the grocer indicate a desire to create a diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused culture.
