Whole Foods Market announced recently that 6 of its supermarkets are to close in Alabama, Massachusetts, California, and Illinois. With the exception of the Englewood store, these locations will close on Friday, May 6th. This news comes just one week after Whole Foods announced the grand opening of its One Chicago hub, which remains unaffected by the recent closures.
The following is a complete list of the locations to shut down:
• Brookline, Massachusetts
• Chicago, Illinois – DePaul location
• Chicago, Illinois – Englewood location
• Mobile, Alabama
• Montgomery, Alabama
• Tarzana, California
The Amazon-owned company owns more than 500 stores throughout the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., and this news comes in the wake of Amazon’s first quarterly loss in seven years, according to the WSJ.
A Whole Foods spokeswoman notes that workers affected by store closings may be able to find positions at other stores, as 50 additional locations are slated to be opened. Full Story
