Report: Seattle Area Amazon Fresh to Be Cashierless

Specialty Food Association

Amazon is implementing its cashierless Just Walk Out technology at an under-construction Amazon Fresh location in Ballard, Washington suggests permit documents and renovations visible from the sidewalk, reports The Seattle Times. This could be the largest cashierless Amazon location to date, as well as the first full-size Amazon Fresh store with the technology.

Permits submitted for renovations to the former Ballard New Seasons Market describe ceiling-mounted racks designed to hold cameras, as well as plans to enlarge the site’s existing computer server room. These features are similar to those installed in Amazon’s smaller Amazon Go stores.

Amazon declined to respond to The Seattle Times' questions, according to the report.

Amazon launched the cashierless technology in 2018. According to the company, the technology is aimed at enhancing the customer experience, not cutting grocery jobs. Full Story
