As part of its second annual Restaurant Online Ordering Trends Report, DoorDash has given insight into current online ordering preferences, and emerging trends related to American dining.

5. Cheeseburgers
The top 5 cuisines ordered on DoorDash U.S. are:
1. American
2. Mexican
3. Japanese
4. Italian
5. Chinese
As a result of COVID-19, off-premises dining has become a more important avenue for food service and customers. The report found that 83 percent of consumers ordered delivery as much as or more often than in 2021, and 86 percent ordered pickup or takeout either as much as or more than 2021, according to DoorDash.
Consumers tend to be adventurous when ordering out; an associated survey found that 92 percent of consumers will either often or occasionally try new menu items. App users will also try new-to-them restaurants and merchants at a rate of 60 percent when compared to their 2021 merchant list.
When evaluating consumer sentiment towards placing orders, the report found that 37 percent of consumers prefer to order delivery through a third-party app (like DoorDash), up from 2021’s 27 percent, and 38 percent prefer to order from the restaurant directly, down from 2021’s 43 percent.
