Price Chopper, McKeever’s, Albertsons Tap Online Grocers
Price Chopper and McKeever’s Market & Eatery said Tuesday that they introduced Instacart’s AI-powered Caper Carts into select Missouri stores with plans to expand in the coming months. Separately, Albertsons Cos. said they will leverage Grubhub to offer grocery delivery from nearly 1,800 banner portfolio locations.
The Caper Carts shopping carts allow customers to scan their items as they shop, manage their grocery budget in real time, and skip the checkout line by paying directly from the cart. Additionally, the technology offers the ability to access coupons and customized deals by linking to a loyalty program.
“We’re a home-grown grocery business committed to improving the shopping experience for customers across Kansas City,” said Tim Cosens, CTO at McKeever’s, in a statement. “Our adoption of Instacart’s AI-powered Caper Carts is a significant step towards modernizing how we serve our customers. This technology not only makes shopping more efficient but also helps customers effortlessly discover new products and stay on budget, all during a single visit.”
Customers of Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, ACME, and Tom Thumb now can use the Grubhub app and website to purchase groceries.
“We’re pleased to grow our grocery offering with Albertsons Cos., one of the leading grocery retailers in the U.S., and give customers the opportunity to conveniently place their grocery orders within Grubhub,” said Craig Whitmer, VP of new verticals at Grubhub, in a statement.
Albertsons Cos. is Grubhub’s first national grocery partner following its partnership with Mercato, a marketplace for independent grocers.
“At Albertsons Cos., we are committed to providing customers with convenience, choice, and variety,” said Amber Kappa, VP of business development and digital innovation at Albertsons Cos., in a statement. “With our latest collaboration with Grubhub, shoppers can receive fresh produce, household essentials and regional favorites directly from our stores to their homes with a simple tap on Grubhub.”
