Plant-Based Foods to Debut at Show

Specialty Food Association

Planet Based Foods, which produces plant-based meat with hemp as its first ingredient, will launch its frozen food line at the Winter Fancy Food Show in booth #3336, part of the Show's Plant-Based Pavilion, next week.

The line includes The Original Hemp Burger, Green Chili Southwest Burger, Breakfast Sausage, Italian Crumble, and Original Crumble.

Planet Based Foods’ production process is the first to use hemp seed, along with pea protein and brown rice, to maximize nutrients and fiber with zero waste, according to the company. The result is hemp meat that delivers high-performance nutrition, including protein, fiber, omega 3-6-9 fats with no soy, gluten or GMO ingredients.

After first launching and refining its Original Hemp Burger based on real diner feedback at Stout Burgers & Beers locations across Southern California in 2021, Planet Based Foods is now making its hemp-based meat more widely available to consumers through its new CPG frozen product line of nutrient-dense comfort foods.

“Planet Based Foods is on a mission to establish hemp as a nutrient-dense protein source that can feed the world sustainably for generations to come,” said Braelyn Davis, CEO and co-founder, Planet Based Foods, in a statement. “We see hemp as an untapped natural resource that delivers unmatched nutrition and sustainability benefits, and is uniquely suited to thrive in the face of climate change. We believe deeply in the potential for our hemp-based products to play a role in addressing major food system challenges while delighting discerning values-driven customers.”

Also exhibiting in the Plant-Based Pavilion is Ayo, a maker of plant-based yogurt, made from organic homegrown almonds and packed with probiotics.

The first-time exhibitor will sample its Peach, Blueberry, Strawberry and Vanilla yogurts from booth #3322.

Debuting at the Show, is a 16-ounce Plain flavor which can be mixed into smoothies, dips, and recipes, cutting down on sugar and increasing healthy fats.

“Our single-serving cups have been a hit, outpacing the top ten leading natural dairy-free yogurt brands in sales growth,” said Ayo Almondmilk Yogurt founder and farmer, Matt Billings, in a statement. “Now, with the new plain yogurt pint, it’s even easier to make healthy recipes for any kind of diet.”

Another SFA member company, Armored Fresh, will showcase its new snackable cube vegan cheese made from almond milk in booth #3449 at the Show.

“We are excited about exhibiting at the Fancy Food Show and letting the world know that vegan cheese can actually taste really good, as demonstrated in our last show.” Said Andrew Yu, CEO of Armored Fresh, in a statement.  “Fancy Food Show is exactly the kind of forum where we hope and expect to meet distributors, retailers and restauranteurs.”
