Picnic Works, a food automation technology provider, has forged a deal with automated restaurant concept Speedy Eats. As part of the deal, Picnic Pizza Stations will be placed in the first Speedy Eats kitchens with plans to increase to 5,000 locations over the next five years.
The Picnic Pizza Station is an autonomous and customizable technology that will flatten pizza dough and apply toppings, which can be loaded directly into the ovens; a single machine can assemble up to 100 pizzas in an hour.
"Speedy Eats is rethinking food production and delivery and we're thrilled that they chose Picnic to provide the automated pizza equipment that will help them scale, delight customers, and increase profitability," said Clayton Wood, CEO of Picnic, in a statement. "We will begin production of their stations in the next few months and look forward to being in all 5,000 Speedy Eats locations in the coming years."
Speedy Eats is an eat-in or pickup location where customers will be able to purchase items around the clock. It also wants to incorporate a design that will give easy access to third-party delivery platform users picking up orders directly from their vehicles.
Successful expansion of the stations to all projected locations means Speedy Eats’ investment in Picnic totals around $800 million.
