All 500+ Whole Foods Markets across the U.S. will soon offer Amazon One, Amazon Web Services’ palm recognition technology that can be used for payment and membership information, shared Sanjay Dash, VP of identity and checkout technologies at AWS Applications in a blog post on Amazon. The rollout will be completed by the end of the year.
Whole Foods Market customers using Amazon One will only need their palm to pay, once signed up. Prime members who have linked their profiles will also receive member discounts automatically. Users can pre-enroll online with their card, Amazon account, and cellphone number, then finish their registration on an in-store Amazon One device.
“We are always looking for new ways to delight our customers and improve the shopping experience,” said Leandro Balbinot, CTO at Whole Foods Market, in a statement. “Since we’ve introduced Amazon One at Whole Foods Market stores over the past two years, we’ve seen that customers love the convenience it provides, and we’re excited to bring Amazon One to all of our customers across the U.S.”
Amazon One is currently available at more than 200 Whole Foods Market locations across the U.S. Additionally, the service has partnered with third-party companies including Panera Bread and Coors Field. Full Story
