NY-Style Bagels, Doughnuts Among Lidl's Bakery Additions

Assorted baked goods.

Lidl US recently added new bakery items to its shelves, including a variety of doughnuts, muffins, and New York-style bagels. The latest offerings accompany its existing baked goods such as France-imported croissants and Germany-imported pretzels.

American demand for grocery bakery offerings, specifically doughnuts and bagels, is rising, said Lidl. In the last year, the grocer noted 2.1 billion doughnuts were sold in grocery stores, up 12.8 percent from the previous year, and almost 986 million bagels, up 3.8 percent from the prior year. The bakery expansion results from consumer expectations and interest, said Lidl.

"These new offerings are part of our strategic pivot here at Lidl US; bagels and doughnuts, in particular, are a testament to our commitment to bring more of what U.S. consumers expect to our assortment,” said Tod Seiling, VP of fresh at Lidl US, in a statement. "We pride ourselves on the quality and consistency of our bakery items and we’re excited to continue tailoring our baked goods to ensure we’re delivering the best experience for our shoppers.”

The additions include a Plain NY Bagel, Everything NY Bagel, Cinnamon Roll Donut, Apple Fritter, Chocolate Yeast Donut, Glazed Yeast Donut, Glazed Cake Donut, Blueberry Muffin with Streusel, and Triple Chocolate Muffin.
