Loyalty programs are an essential part of shopping today, especially at supermarkets. Successful retailers need to know how to get customers to sign up and motivate them to be truly engaged in the program, according to Newsweek.

With each U.S. household enrolled in 18 different loyalty programs, on average, getting customers hooked is imperative. Newsweek and Statista's ranked retailers from various industries who have done that through strategies like gamification to merging with a payment system.

Here are the highest scoring supermarkets on Newsweek's "America's Best Loyalty Programs 2022" list:

1. Smith's

2. Sprouts

3. Mariano's

4. Publix

5. ShopRite

6. Fred Meyer

7. Price Chopper

8. Winn-Dixie

9. Fry's Food Stores

10. Giant

“Providing a pleasurable shopping experience extends beyond our aisles,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous, about being named to the list. “Club Publix offers our customers a more personalized experience to meet their individual needs and preferences.
