Meijer will build two new brick-and-mortar stores, both called Meijer Grocery, that seek to provide communities with easier access to fresher foods in a small format neighborhood market.
The stores will open in 2023 in neighborhoods in Orion Township and Macomb Township in southeast Michigan. In 2018, Meijer introduced Bridge Street Market, focusing on local Michigan-made products.
"We're excited to provide our customers with yet another way to shop," said Don Sanderson, group vice president of Foods at Meijer, in a statement. "This new concept store will not only provide our customers with everything they need on their weekly shopping trip, but also a quick and easy solution for when they realize they left the key ingredient off their list while cooking dinner."
Meijer Grocery locations will range between 75,000 to 90,000 square feet and feature a condensed selection of fresh produce; a meat counter; bakery; deli; dry grocery; pharmacy; health and beauty; baby, pets, and consumables; and card, party, and floral.
The new locations will also offer shop and scan, home delivery, and pickup.
