Women Who Stir Things Up: The Sisters Behind SFA Member Brand This Girl Walks Into a Bar

This Girl Walks into a Bar founders and products
When sisters Jordan and Jocelyn first launched This Girl Walks Into a Bar, their mission was simple: craft cocktail mixers that tasted as fresh and delicious as a homemade drink. What began as a bartending business has evolved into a premium line of certified organic, low sugar mixers designed to deliver bar quality beverages at home—no complicated recipes required. With sleek, thoughtfully designed bottles and flavors perfected over years behind the bar, their brand is a true blend of their talents: Jordan’s bartending expertise and Jocelyn’s eye for design.

Their journey hasn’t been without challenges. After the devastating Palisades Fire forced them to close their bartending business and destroyed much of their inventory, the sisters doubled down on their vision, expanding their product line and planning for the future. In this Q&A, Jordan shares how their sisterly bond shapes the SFA member brand, how they’re rebuilding after the fire, and what exciting new flavors and snacks are on the horizon.

1. Please tell us about your bar mixers and snacks. What makes them special?

Our mixers are certified-organic, alcohol-free, low sugar, low carb, and made with minimal ingredients. They were developed and perfected over the years through our bartending company after clients continued to ask for better tasting mixers, particularly a Margarita Mix

2. Happy Women’s History Month! As sisters and business partners, how do identity and your relationship shape your vision for the brand? Do you think being a women-owned business helps customers connect with your brand?

Our brand is a fusion of who we are as sisters and best friends. I spent years behind the bar and Jocelyn was a professional designer. In addition to creating a great tasting liquid, we wanted to design a bottle that was easy to manage behind the bar or at home, and that was beautiful. That’s not to say that a liter or 1.75 mL size isn’t in our future, but our bottle shape and size is easy to grab and lift with one hand whether you’re a professional or just entertaining friends.

As for being a women-owned business, I’m still not sure if that’s the primary connection point for our customers. What resonates most is that we’re family owned. For those who do know we’re female founders and moms, there’s an added layer of appreciation for the juggling act it took to bring this brand to life.

3. We understand and are sorry to hear that your company was impacted by the recent Palisades Fire. Would you like to share more details? How can the SFA community continue to support you as you rebuild?

Thank you. My family’s home survived the first night but burned down the following day around noon. It’s been a surreal experience, but my husband and I are taking it one day at a time. That night, Jocelyn and I made the difficult decision to close our bartending business after eight years. We lost all our equipment, uniforms, and supplies—along with our largest client base in the Palisades, many of whom also lost their homes.

We had recently expanded our mixer line, and about 1,500 bottles intended for local distribution were lost in the fire, along with all our marketing materials, tradeshow displays, home office equipment, and a beloved bar book collection. The best way to support us is simple: if you love our mixers, tell a friend. Every bit helps.

4. What’s been the most surprising or rewarding feedback you’ve received from your customers?

My favorite feedback is when someone tries a cocktail or mocktail made with our mixers and asks if it really came from a bottle. We worked hard to make our mixers taste as homemade as possible, and we truly believe we achieved that. Hearing customers confirm it is incredibly rewarding.

5. What’s next for This Girl Walks Into a Bar—any exciting plans or product launches on the horizon?

We’ve got six more flavors in the works! We’re aiming to launch three by the end of this year and another three in 2026. After that, we’ll debut our snack line—we can’t wait to share what’s coming next.

6. What advice do you have to share for food entrepreneurs at the beginning of their journey?

Talk to at least ten founders in your space and ask them to share their “what-I-wish-someone-had-told-me” stories. Their insights can save you from a lot of headaches. And if you have a good product, stick with it. The cream always rises to the top.
