Ketchup Popsicles Debut in Canada

Specialty Food Association

French’s Ketchup, a Canadian condiment brand, recently debuted the “Frenchsicle,” a ketchup-flavored popsicle created in partnership with Happy Pops, a local, all-natural Canadian ice pop brand. The creation celebrated the start of summer and was made available at several pop-up locations throughout the country.

According to a survey commissioned by French’s, 79 percent of Canadians say they like or love ketchup, and of that percentage, 78 percent note that it’s important to buy ketchup made solely with Canadian tomatoes. This led the brand to consider developments in its condiment, already made exclusively with Canadian tomatoes, to produce the unlikely combination.

"I love creating innovative treats that appeal to Canada's diverse tastes," said Happy Pops founder Leila Keshavjee, in a statement. "I started Happy Pops to bring all-natural, handcrafted flavor to Canadians, so French's locally grown ketchup is a perfect pairing. I can't wait for people to try this condiment-turned-popsicle."

To honor Canadian heritage, for each Frenchsicle given away the company will donate two meals to Food Banks Canada to address food insecurity in the country.
