Jeni's, Hershey's, Friendly's Ice Cream Recalled

Ice cream products

Over 60 ice cream products from national and specialty brands including Jeni's, Hershey's, Friendly's, ChipWich, and Dolcezza Gelato have been recalled over concerns they have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, said FDA. The products were distributed nationwide.

The manufacturer Totally Cool, Inc. ceased the production and distribution of affected products after the presence of the bacteria was discovered in an FDA sampling. The company continues its investigation and is taking preventive actions, said FDA. No other products from the manufacturer are impacted by this recall.

The date and plant information available through the FDA document here can be used to identify affected products.

The bacteria can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly population, and those with weakened immune systems. The company urges consumers to return impacted products for a refund.

No illnesses had been reported as of Monday, said FDA.
