The Hy-Vee OppportUNITY Inclusive Business Summit will take place on September 19 at the University Club in Moline, Illinois, and will feature 15 minority- and/or women-owned businesses that have been selected to participate in one of three pitch competition categories.
A panel of judges will select one winner of the $30,000 grand prize, and one business from each category will win $5,000.
Six of the selected local candidates operate food or beverage businesses. They are:
• Desserts By Design, a state-licensed home bakery specializing in desserts that enable people with food allergies to fully participate in food occasions.
• Bao Destination, a brand that features handmade, frozen bao buns.
• DogGurt, an all-natural frozen pet treat available in six flavors.
• GoPo Gourmet Popcorn, a small-batch popcorn in various sweet and salty flavors.
• Origami Foods, a maker of a unique chili crisp.
• Bloom, a business that provides access to fresh and nutritious snacks and treats; it aims to increase education about whole foods and wellness that "blooms from within."
The summit will feature an expo offering resources for small businesses, learning opportunities through presentations and panel discussions, the chance to be inspired by other brands, and more.
