Hy-vee is partnering with the Food Industry Association to celebrate National Family Meals Month, an FMI-created movement to focus on nutrition and mental well-being. The retailer will also separately honor Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15, with events.
“The stress of the past two years has been significant and pervasive,” said Dr. Daniel Fick, senior vice president and chief medical officer for Hy-Vee, in a statement. “It comes as no surprise that mental health stress has increased as much as physical stress. Having a healthy lifestyle is important to one’s mental health and that includes having strong family connections.”
Throughout the month, Hy-Vee’s Family Meals Month events and programs include:
• Access to the free cookbook Healthier Made Easier as well as family cooking guides
• Kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entrée at all Hy-Vee food service locations
• Daily recipes, weekly meal ideas, and grab-and-go dinner options shared on social media
• Hy-Vee KidsFit social media campaign to support staying active and making healthy choices
• Live cooking demonstrations
Hispanic Heritage Month will be celebrated by providing tools and resources to facilitate family mealtime while recognizing the many family meal traditions that come from several heritages. Select Hispanic products from suppliers like Siete, and special cooking guides with Hispanic- and Latino-inspired recipes will be made available in addition to dietician classes taught in Spanish.
