H-E-B shared Wednesday it has opened an ecommerce fulfillment center in Katy, Texas. The project expands the retailer’s commitment to integrate omnichannel growth technologies and provide an improved shopping experience for Texans, according to the retailer.
The more than 100,000-square-foot fulfillment center is the company’s largest, twice the size of its other locations. It will support H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery orders across the Houston area.
“We’re excited to utilize this facility to support the Houston area, one of the largest markets for our company,” said Kedar Patel, H-E-B group VP of ecommerce, in a statement. “Across our business, we are adopting innovative technologies that give our partners the tools they need to provide great service and a top-quality shopping experience for our customers.”
To help support rising demand for online shopping, the ecommerce centers stock goods found in stores that are used for online orders. These facilities allow for more capacity, greater efficiency, better product availability, and less aisle congestion for the in-store shopper, according to H-E-B. These facilities also use automation to help brands throughout the order process.
To give back to the community, H-E-B celebrated the facility’s grand opening by making a $5,000 community gift to The Ballard House, which provides temporary housing for individuals who are hospitalized or receiving treatment for a severe medical condition and their families.
The Katy facility marks H-E-B’s seventh ecommerce fulfillment center the company has opened since 2018. By the end of next year, the retailer hopes to open additional facilities across the state.
