Giant Food has launched local produce boxes distributed exclusively through Giant Delivers, the grocer's food delivery platform. The boxes are available for $20.00 without a need for a subscription throughout the summer.
The boxes' contents vary by week, depending on harvests and seasonal availability, and contain at least six items from local farms in Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.
"Giant's first summer of offering the Local Produce Boxes was a huge success and our customers loved knowing that their produce was sourced locally by the best farms around our area," said Adenike Olaleye, senior manager of ecommerce merchandising at Giant Food, in a statement. "We're working with more farmers this year to offer an even wider range of produce options that will keep our customers pleased week after week."
The produce packages are available weekly through September or while supplies last. The offering is in line with the company's mission to increase food traceability and transparency while increasing locally sourced food access.
