Getir, a digital grocery platform, announced Friday that it has acquired Berlin-based on-demand delivery company Gorillas. The company indicates that this decision highlights how it intends to lead consolidation in the sector.
"Markets go up and down, but consumers love our service and convenience is here to stay. The super fast grocery delivery industry will steadily grow for many years to come and Getir will lead this category it created 7 years ago," says Nazim Salur, founder of Getir, in a statement.
Getir was first launched in Turkey in 2015 as the world’s first ultrafast grocery delivery service and now operates in nine countries, including in the U.S. Gorillas similarly advertises speedy delivery and operates in a related footprint to Getir.
