FreshDirect Spotlights Women-Owned Food Makers

Specialty Food Association

Throughout March, FreshDirect is celebrating Women’s History Month by showcasing the innovative women food producers behind many of the specialty food items it sells.

The grocer is proud to collaborate with these female food industry professionals who are changing the culinary game and paving the way for a more equitable food system.

Following are some of the brands it's promoting:

• Monfefo’s Turmeric and Ginger Shots are made in-house, in a certified organic factory. The brand works with sustainable farms from Peru and uses only the highest-quality organic produce.

• Nettle Meadow, owned and operated by Sheila Flanagan, is committed to the principles of natural ingredients, happy and healthy animals, and carefully hand-crafted artisan cheeses. It makes several varieties of soft goat cheeses and is well known for its semi-aged cheeses and mixed milk cheeses.

• Noona’s Ice Cream, founded in 2016 with the goal of trailblazing Asian-American ice cream and dairy-free frozen desserts, sources organic ingredients directly from the producers and farmers as much as possible. Every year, the brand donates at least 10 gallons of ice cream to local schools, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations that support communities of color, especially women.

• Honey Mama’s Chocolate Truffle Bar is all about a pure indulgence and, ultimately, love, as the brand is committed to using only the highest-quality direct-trade, non-GMO, and organic ingredients. All Honey Mama’s products are made using only five whole food, nutrient-rich ingredients, and are naturally free from refined sugar, soy, eggs, dairy, gluten, and grains. Founder Christy Goldsby believes that these comfort treats will provide people with vibrance, vitality, and a sense of wellbeing.

• Nona Lim, founded in 2014, is Lim’s namesake brand featuring some of her favorite childhood dishes made with fresh ingredients from the Bay Area. Slow-simmered bone broths with Asian herbs, and fresh rice noodles made in Singapore evoke the comfort of home with a modern flare.
