CPG Brands Target Low-Income Americans
Americans who rely on government benefits to purchase food are cutting spending, prompting major CPG companies to rethink their strategies, reports Reuters.
Amid food price inflation, these shoppers, who typically earn less than $35,000 per year, are preparing meals from scratch, using up leftovers, and buying less.
People that are struggling are buying “whatever is on the shelf that you can stretch longer and further to feed the many mouths that might be sitting around the table," said Carlos Rodriguez, chief policy and operations officer at City Harvest, which distributes fresh food in New York City.
To appeal to consumers who’ve had to trade down from fast food, Conagra will introduce Banquet chicken patties, priced at $6.99 for six, according to a company spokesman. Full Story
