Costco has discontinued its curbside pickup test, which it began earlier this year at three New Mexico locations, reports Grocery Dive. In a fourth-quarter earnings call, chief financial officer Richard Galanti said that the service was stopped because it “didn’t really see a lot of traction.”
Galanti also shared that Costco is reinstating purchase limits on products like toilet paper, bottled water, and paper towels due to supply chain challenges like port delays, trucker shortages, labor cost pressures, and shortages of raw ingredients.
“A year ago there was a shortage of merchandise. Now they've got plenty of merchandise but there's two- or three-week delays on getting it delivered because there's a limit on short-term changes to trucking and delivery needs to suppliers,” Galanti said.
However, despite these challenges, Costo’s net sales were up 17.5 percent and U.S. comparable stores sales were up 14.9 percent. Full Story
