C&S Wholesale Grocers will work with Tata Consultancy Services to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and enhance overall customer service by building out a new operations platform.

The platform on Google Cloud will enable faster, more predictable, and sustainable distribution, according to C&S.

“Our collaboration with TCS and Google Cloud will accelerate C&S’s digital transformation strategy,” said Sudhakar Lingineni, CIO of C&S, in a statement. “It will help build new and support current critical business applications with resilience, scalability, and flexibility to drive innovation and growth while ensuring business continuity… Big Query, AI, and ML will help tackle the large and complex data challenges unique to our business.”

Artificial intelligence and machine learning will be implemented to help C&S monitor traffic patterns and identify optimal routes for wholesale distribution, which will increase efficiencies and lead to the reduction of food waste. The company’s carbon footprint will be minimized by the migration of its current data center workloads to those of Google Cloud, which supports carbon-neutral infrastructure.

“We like to challenge the status quo and need partners who can do the same,” said Bob Palmer, CEO of C&S, said in a statement.  “Both TCS and Google Cloud are making it possible to implement a platform that supports our operational sustainability goals to ensure a healthy planet now and for future generations.”
