Aldi plans to increase the amount of food and drink it buys from British suppliers by £3.5 billion a year within the next five years as it continues its expansion across the U.K. The company is investing £500 million in new and upgraded stores, distribution centers, and its supply chain in 2021, which will create over 4,000 jobs as well as new opportunities for British food and drink producers.
“We are expecting significant sales growth in 2021 as we open new stores and bring Aldi to more locations across the U.K.,” said Giles Hurley, chief executive officer at Aldi U.K., in a statement. “With the vast majority of our grocery products now coming from British suppliers, our growth will lead to additional jobs and investment in our UK supply chain.”
Manchester Drinks Co. has had an ongoing partnership with Aldi since 2015 to supply the supermarket with gins and gin liqueurs. Now, the company is adding a new production line to meet the growing demand from Aldi.
“Our new contract with Aldi is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our flavored gins and liqueurs to shoppers across the country, and will help to provide stability for our business in an uncertain climate,” said Richard Benjamin, co-owner at Manchester Drinks Co., in a statement.
