Airport Lounges Entice With Specialty Food

United Club Fly Grab and Go section

Companies offering airport lounge services continue to bulk up their offerings by leaning into specialty food and beverage options, reports The Wall Street Journal

At Denver International Airport, United launched Club Fly, its first grab-and-go market, offering members complimentary food, a coffee bar offering specialty drinks, and self-serve coffee station.

“Grab-and-go is a hot trend in airport lounges,” according to the report. “These aren’t areas to, well, lounge. Instead, fliers can avoid long food lines in the terminal and grab something decent on the way to their gates without airport-concession sticker shock.”

The airport’s Capital One lounge features a coffee stand and assortment of to-go food from its takeaway-centered area, and a full bar in its traditional lounge section. The report highlights a shift in airport lounge sentiments: although airports have traditionally frowned on guests removing food, the lounge offers to-go bags to encourage it.

“If they want to get on their way they can,’’ says Jenn Scheurich, managing vice president and head of Capital One Travel. “And they’ve still had the opportunity to enjoy a real great experience in our lounge.’’ Full Story (Subscription Required)
