Bigelow Tea
2016
Lifetime Achievement

While the Bigelow Tea company attributes its beginnings to Ruth Bigelow and the advent of “Constant Comment”® Tea in 1945, David and Eunice paved the way for the explosion of the U.S. specialty tea market. Bigelow Tea was a founding member of the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (now Specialty Food Association) and built the specialty tea business in the U.S. Today, Eunice and David serve as co-chairmen of the family-run company that today makes over 120 blends. They are still the only ones to blend the company’s flagship brand, “Constant Comment” tea.

Visionaries that they are, they made a considerable investment in 2003 to restore South Carolina’s 127-acre Charleston Tea Plantation, to share their love of tea as a vibrant piece of Americana for all to enjoy. Today, the beautiful Charleston Tea Plantation has become the standard bearer for the long and illustrious American tea story tea and welcomes 70,000 visitors each year.

The Bigelows are admired not only for the significant impact they have had on the specialty tea industry, but for the positive influence they have had on the lives of the thousands of employees. Their passion, creativity and guidance are without measure. In 2015, they were honored as inaugural inductees in Specialty Food Association Hall of Fame.
