Specialty Food Association

Vallarta Supermarkets is rolling out a variety of meatless items for customers observing Lent, reports Progressive Grocer. In all of the grocer’s La Cocina (restaurant) departments, Beyond Meat will be offered as a protein substitute in menu items like carnitas torta or carne asada tacos. Beyond Meat is available year-round at all Vallarta’s prepared food items and grocery freezer section.

In addition, the grocer is offering ready-made seafood products including Shrimp Fajitas, Creamy Garlic Shrimp, Crab & Shrimp Louie Salad, and Stuffed Avocado Ceviche. Other non-meat dishes include Chile Rellenos and traditional Lent favorite, Milk Capirotada, also known as bread pudding.

“During Lent, many customers stop eating meat, this doesn’t have to mean fewer options,” said Andrew Lewis, Vallarta’s VP of marketing. “Our Lent menu includes traditional favorites and new recipes across our departments that are full of flavor, adhere to Lent practices and can be delivered to our customers’ homes.” Full Story
