Last month, SFA members Supernatural, Amasar, Mixoloshe, and Ritual were highlighted in various media outlets.
In a story about non-alcoholic sales continuing their upward trajectory, Mixoloshe and Ritual were mentioned alongside market leader Athletic Brewing Company. Mixoloshe’s Cosmic Bitter Spritz was called a “refreshing summer drink” that is an alcohol-free take on the Spritz cocktail made with oranges and Aperol. Ritual’s Rum Alternative was also featured for its parity with alcohol when served in mixed drinks.
Supernatural, a woman-owned baking brand with products made from plant-based sources, recently expanded its retail reach to all 386 Sprouts Farmers Market stores across the U.S., reports Food Business News. The grocer stocks seven plant-based sprinkle varieties including the company’s newest Rainbow Softies and Fair-Trade Chocolate Softies.
“Since launching Supernatural six years ago, I’ve been on a mission to take baking back from the chemical-laden conglomerates that have dominated the baking aisle for far too long,” said Carmel Hagen, founder of Supernatural, in a statement. “Supernatural’s launch in Sprouts brings us even closer to realizing our goal of becoming a new household name and the new standard in baking products by proving that 100 percent all-natural products can be just as vibrant, imaginative, and fun as the versions we grew up with.”
A Forbes story about the breadfruit trend highlighted Amasar's pancake and waffle mix made from the fruit. Breadfruit is a grapefruit-sized fruit in the mulberry and jackfruit family that is typically grown in the Pacific, the Caribbean, and other tropical regions. The contributor, Daphne Ewing-Chow, shared that the ingredient's popularity is growing both in and beyond the specialty food aisle, signaling the trend's growth potential.
“Last year, the Specialty Food Association's sofi Awards — recognizing the best in specialty foods that are projected to join mainstream restaurant menus and home kitchens — included Amasar All Purpose Breadfruit Mix from Puerto Rico among its favorite new products. The mix is used to make cakes, pancakes, and waffles, among other baked goods that call for flour.”
