Wegmans Food Markets has announced it will celebrate the grand opening of its Carlyle-Alexandria store in Virginia on Wednesday, May 11. The 81,300 square-foot supermarket is located just outside of Old Town Alexandria.

The new store will employ 450 people in full- and part-time jobs. Recruitment began in September and is ongoing for remaining part-time positions and select full-time positions. Available jobs span departments throughout the store, including sushi, pizza, prepared foods, deli and charcuterie, cheese, seafood, grocery stockers, and cashiers.

Wegmans is recognized as an exceptional employer. For 24 consecutive years it has ranked high on Fortune magazine’s list of “The 100 Best Companies to Work For,” placing fourth in 2021.

Alexis Walters (pictured above) has grown her career from part-time cashier to full-time employee advocate during her 10 years with Wegmans. Walters was working full-time with a local school district when she applied for a job at the Frederick, Maryland, store.

“Wegmans was supposed to be a temporary summer job for me while I was determining my career path,” said Walters, in a statement. “Once I started to work for the company, I saw an opportunity to have a career with Wegmans, and I choose that path.”

Walters accepted a full-time position at the Frederick store and served as a team leader before relocating to Virginia in 2014. She participated in Wegmans Human Resources Management Trainee program and upon completion, worked as an employee advocate at several stores in the Virginia division.

In 2021, Walters joined the Carlyle team to assist with opening the new store. She currently oversees staffing and training needs to prepare employees for opening day.

“Once the store is open, my focus will continue to be our people and making sure they have the resources they need to be successful in their roles,” said Walters. “I appreciate Wegmans’ focus on the overall well-being and success of its employees. It’s gratifying to be a part of that network of support.”
