Walmart Canada has broken ground on its first distribution center in Atlantic Canada, a 223,000-square-foot facility in Moncton, New Brunswick. The facility, which will provide fresh and frozen groceries to 43 Walmart stores, is slated to open in the fall of 2022.
“We are thrilled to be making investments for growth in New Brunswick because we believe there’s a bright future for Walmart Canada in Atlantic Canada,” said Horacio Barbeito, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, in a statement. “This is an exciting time at Walmart Canada as our new distribution centre will be a game-changer for our customers, associates and suppliers in Atlantic Canada. We’re proud to work with local contractors and suppliers to develop a world-class supply chain that puts our customers first while protecting the planet.”
The distribution center will create more than 200 jobs in Moncton and surrounding communities, including more than 100 jobs inside the facility.
“We are thrilled to welcome Walmart to one of Moncton’s Industrial Parks,” said Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold, in a statement. “This is another great addition that will bring jobs to the City and contribute to the three-year streak of record-breaking land sales and development for Moncton Industrial Development. Walmart Canada is another client that has demonstrated their confidence in our city as the hub for business expansion in Atlantic Canada.”
