In anticipation of hosting French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, the White House has prepared a cheese selection featuring three products from Rogue Creamery, according to the Mail Tribune. First Lady Jill Biden made the announcement, emphasizing the Rogue River Blue product.
“I’m especially excited that we are featuring American cheeses for our cheese course, including Rogue River Blue, the champion of the 2019 World Cheese Awards,” she said.
The other two cheeses from the company are Bluehorn Blue and Cheese Is Love Extra-Aged Cheddar. When remarking upon the choice to include a cheese course, Marguerite Merritt, cheese emissary and marketing manager for Rogue Creamery said it is typical of French cuisine.
“It is an interesting point of distinction that in the USA, cheese is most often served as an appetizer prior to dinner, but in France, it’s almost always after-dinner enjoyment,” she said.
The Rogue River Blue cheese, the company’s signature product, is hand-wrapped in syrah grape leaves soaked in pear liqueur, the Bluehorn Blue is soaked in organic red wine, and the Cheese Is Love is aged three years.
The last time the company’s cheese was featured at a White House state dinner was during the Obama administration. The company hopes that its products can serve as a diplomatic tool between the two countries. Full Story
