As COVID-19 restrictions lift and consumers become more mobile, the snacking category could see changes in packaging sizes, reports Food Business News.
Amid the pandemic, consumers sought out larger-sized packages with the intention of sharing as a means of reducing overall snack expenditures. Many products, including potato chips, tortilla chips, cheese snacks, ready-to-eat popcorn, cookies, pretzels, granola bars, and non-chocolate candy shifted packaging sizes to fit that trend.
However, consumers are beginning to look for smaller sized packages as they are out and about, said Sally Lyons Wyatt, executive vice president and practice leader for Information Resources, Inc.
“Mobility is going to be the trigger for the small-size rebound,” Wyatt said. “Mobility is also going to be the trigger for drug and convenience stores. Convenience is going to be the recipient of people being on the go. They are going to get those travel items. It’s already started.”
Waytt recommends that makers and retailers offer a balance of sizes for consumers to choose from and remind them of the convenience of smaller packages. Full Story
